Seth is a successful business man and he is getting increasingly frustrated with William, his good for nothing housemate. The pair are looking for a new hoursemate but lazy William isn't helping, choosing to spend his time hanging out with 'it girl' Brooke. Seth urges William to get himself a job, but William considers himself a writer and is going to pursue his dream. Seth's fiance arrives, much to William's annoyance as it becomes apparent that the pair do not get on. Whilst William gets dressed, Seth and Alice discuss the fact that Seth hasn't told him that they're not searching for an extra housemate but rather a replacement for Seth who has accepted a promotion - which means he has to move out.
After Alice leaves, Gemma Fields - a potential housemate - arrives, and while Seth isn't sure, William fancies her and is quite eager... the men argue and things get out of hand. Seth takes a swing at William but misses and knocks out Gemma. Alice returns and finds an unconscious Gemma. The pair end up catfighting, much to the amusement of both Seth and William. Gemma wakes up and exits, Seth going after her to apologise. Brooke also makes an exit. William and Alice argue and it becomes apparent that they have been cheating on Seth. Alice leaves and Seth returns. Seth attacks William telling him all the bad things about him, and William announces that he knows about Seth's promotion and that he's leaving ... he also announces that he's been seeing Alice. To his surprise Seth already knows. Seth says thats why he's leaving... and Alice is going with him. Seth walks out, leaving William alone... although Brooke soon appears with a tub of chocolate ice cream and a promise to be famous...
Leigh Woolsey
Chasing Rainbows is, to date, Tobias' most succesful production, winning the Best Original Script award at the Drama festival and nominated for the Best Production. It received the best critical response and it was suggested that the production was good enough to be published. It's also the only production since 2006 not to suffer any cast changes - Nicholls, Willis, Brown and German all returning from the previous play, while Woolsey was originally cast in Romantic Centre (as the character German took on). This remains Tobias' favourite production, and it has set a benchmark for his following works.
